Problem
Immigrant women face systemic barriers in healthcare, including language gaps, complex insurance jargon, and cultural disconnects. These obstacles lead to medical mistrust, delayed care, and severe emotional strain, as existing healthcare platforms are rarely designed with the unique needs of non-native speakers in mind.
Challenge
The challenge was to architect a high-trust digital ecosystem that simplifies complex medical data while maintaining cultural sensitivity. This required balancing sophisticated AI translation and insurance guidance with a "human-in-the-loop" approach, ensuring the platform felt supportive rather than purely clinical for a vulnerable user base.
Solution
WE Women Health is an AI-powered healthcare advocacy platform that bridges the communication gap through real-time medical translation, side-by-side multilingual insurance comparisons, and a certified "In-Person Companion" booking service. The solution transforms a daunting administrative process into a guided, empowered journey toward health equity.
Impact
The project successfully redefined mental health management from reactive treatment to proactive daily care. WE Women health has garnered over 10 prestigious international honors, including the Pro Winner of the Core77 Design Award, the winner of the UX Design Awards, and the Gold Winner of the K-Design Award. Recognized for its deep social impact, the team was invited by UXDA (UX Design Awards) to deliver a specialized keynote on Designing for Women’s Health, highlighting our commitment to inclusive innovation. To further our mission of health equity, we are currently seeking partnerships with women-focused non-profit organizations to donate the project’s outcomes and technology, ensuring this vital support reaches the communities that need it most at no cost.
Key Features
WE bridges the gap between immigrant women and accessible healthcare through a set of thoughtfully designed features:
Real-Time AI Assistance
The AI assistant provides instant translations of medical terms, clear procedural guidance, and context-aware advice, ensuring users can follow along in healthcare environments confidently. Unlike generic translation tools, the AI is optimized for medical terminology and culturally sensitive guidance.In-Person Companions
Users can book certified companions to accompany them to medical appointments. These companions provide language and emotional support, helping users feel understood and reassured. The service combines professional reliability with a personal touch, creating a bridge between users and healthcare providers.Simplified Insurance Guidance
Insurance options are presented with clear, side-by-side comparisons and multilingual explanations, enabling users to make informed decisions about their coverage. The feature demystifies complex insurance processes and provides the clarity users need to feel empowered.Community and Support
The platform includes a forum where women can share experiences, seek advice, and access curated articles on women’s health and wellness. It creates a safe space for connection and mutual support, addressing emotional isolation while fostering a sense of belonging.

Design Approach
WE was developed using a user-centered design process. Through extensive research, we identified key pain points and refined our solutions to meet users’ real-world needs. This included:
Quantitative Research: Surveys of over 200 immigrant women helped pinpoint challenges in healthcare navigation.
Qualitative Interviews: In-depth conversations provided insights into personal experiences and cultural nuances.
Iterative Prototyping: Early prototypes were tested and improved based on user feedback to ensure accessibility, usability, and relevance.

Design Innovation
WE sets a new benchmark for innovation by challenging the norms of healthcare access and offering a novel, inclusive solution to a growing global problem—immigrant women’s healthcare. Traditionally, healthcare systems have been designed with a one-size-fits-all approach, overlooking the unique needs of immigrant populations. WE presents an alternative way of thinking by integrating real-time AI translations, in-person companions, and simplified insurance guidance to make healthcare more accessible and culturally sensitive.
Materials and Technologies: The platform harnesses cutting-edge AI technology to provide seamless, context-aware translations for medical terminology and healthcare procedures. This innovative use of AI, combined with human support through certified companions, ensures that both emotional and practical needs are met. The integration of these technologies addresses barriers in a way that hasn’t been done before.
Pushing the Boundaries: WE is a significant leap forward in how we think about healthcare access. It combines technological innovation with deep empathy, setting new benchmarks for user experience. By integrating a supportive community forum and fostering connections, it creates an ecosystem that promotes both physical and emotional well-being, which is often neglected in traditional healthcare models.
Scalability and Adaptability: WE has immense potential for scalability. Its adaptable, digital-first design makes it possible to expand into different regions, integrate with various healthcare systems, and serve a wide range of users. The platform’s core structure allows it to be refined and adapted for various sectors, from healthcare to community-building initiatives, making it a versatile solution with global applicability.
